  • Proofreading
  • Copyediting from ‘light touch’ to more extensive language editing for non-native English speakers

For all editorial services, I can follow an established house style or, for individual authors and projects, develop an appropriate style as part of the remit in consultation with the author.

  • Dissertations and theses
  • Other publications and documents, such as reports and personal statements

Specialist subject areas

Though I can work on a wide range of material and subject areas, I specialise in science, in particular, chemistry, biology, mass spectrometry and related areas.

Formats

  • Word document markup using Track Changes
  • PDF document markup using Adobe Acrobat Comment tools or BSI proofreading stamps
  • Hard copy markup using BSI proofreading symbols

Proofread or copyedit?

Proofreading and copyediting are often assumed to be one and the same. They are not, as a proofreader carries out a final check on edited material, picking up on any errors or inconsistencies that may have slipped through the editorial process, whereas a copyeditor makes more extensive changes at an earlier stage in the process.
